Dr. Melvin Khaw

Dr. Melvin Khaw M.D.

Melvin Khaw was born in Rangoon, Burma. At the age of six, he came to the United States with his family, and settled in Santa Monica. Mel attended Santa Monica High School, where he was a varsity wrestler and a brown belt in the martial art of Tae Kwon Do.

Mel graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA with Departmental Highest Honors in Biochemistry, and obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree. His research there involved neurotransmitters in nerve cells.

Dr. Khaw completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, West Los Angeles, and continued his training with a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the UCLA Center for the Health Sciences. He has been Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.

In addition to the practice of Internal Medicine, Dr. Khaw's interests include Travel Medicine and Infectious Diseases. From 1994 to 1996, he practiced in the Palm Springs area at the Eisenhower Medical Center and John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital. He has been in practice in Encino since 1996, and served as an Infectious Diseases Specialist at Providence Tarzana Medical Center, Encino Hospital and Valley Presbyterian Hospital.

Dr. Khaw lives in the San Fernando Valley with his wife, two children, and an Australian cattle dog. He enjoys snowboarding, skateboarding, hiking, listening to music, watching movies, and Asian cuisine. In addition, he likes body surfing and riding roller coasters at amusement parks with his children.
